Unrivaled amongst most famous ski towns, Val d’Isre brags 500 KM of skiing pistes. The skiing starts in Nov and finishes in mid May. The purpose built French village supplies everything for you. The resort unfolds through the valley from La Daille up to Le Fornet with the focus on Val Village. This bunch of inviting buildings incorporate chic dress shops most of which have sprung up since the village was voted for the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Spred over three parts the town has many ski able slopes for all levels of skiers. With a great historical snow record, the resort is hugely fashionable among advanced skiers and motorway skiing intermediates, on the other hand you do not have to be especially adventurous to savor what’s on offer. One can easily see why so many English are drawn to the area, with its varied night-life and the variety of entertainment on offer, however the proximity of Tignes permits you to venture out to calmer areas if it all begins to get all too much.
Pros
A good apres ski in the Alps. Everybody understands English. Quick entrance to Val d’Isre and Tignes known as the Espace Killy ski area which is perfect for skiing holidays. There’s lots of cars and whilst there are many buses in the day, committed apres skiers had better aim to be within walking distance from the town centre.
Cons
Overpriced. Busy and very fashionable with English tourists, so not for holiday makers seeking a classic French ski town to enjoy a stress free trip. Several lifts can close in inclement weather conditions. Several difficult blue and green pistes.
