Who Is Ken Mehlman?

Ken Mehlman is a lawyer and political strategists. He was an active member of the Republican National Committee and was even selected as the committee’s 62nd chairman. He practiced environmental law at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld and there he was known for providing his clients with solutions regarding regulatory, legislative, constituency, and public and corporate relations issues.

During former President Bush’s re-election campaign, Ken Mehlman was the campaign manager. Due to his successful handling of the Bush campaign, he was chosen to be the former President’s Deputy Assistant and Director of Political Public Affairs. Apart from being a White House Staff member, Ken Mehlman served Congresswoman Kay Granger as the latter’s chief of staff. He was also appointed as legislative director for Congressman Lamar S. Smith.

When Ken Mehlman did not renew his term as chairman of the RNC after the 2006 elections, he was hired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Inc. as their Managing Director and Head of Global Public Affairs. He now oversees KKR’s relationship to various stakeholders all over the world as well as the company’s government and public relation issues.

The Wall Street Journal even branded Ken Mehlman’s works at Akin Gump as “political intelligence.”
